Nowadays social networking has been increasingly used in personal and corporate levels.Users can benefit from networking site like facebook.com , it makes individuals better off as a society and as an individuals. According to the Nicole Ellison assistant professor of at Michigan State University ,she and her team has examined the use of facebook by undergrade students.They have used surveys, interviews, and automated capture of the MSU Facebook site to try to understand how and why students use Facebook.Results were that undergraduates who used Facebook intensively had gain higher social capital than those who didn’t.However it also brings harm as in the same reading Martin Bailey said :”Social networking sites are affecting the labor market as well, because recruiters evaluating young professionals applying for jobs are now hacking into applicants’ profiles, and making hiring decisions based on profile photos in which applicants are drunk or inappropriately dressed.”
I personally think that just like everything in this world has its negatives and positives social networking has its positives and negatives. However we must see is there more of the “dark side” or “bride side” of it. The issues like companies refusing the job to the applicants because of the facebook pictures isn’s a social networking problems but companies.Do you really think it is professional or even legal for the company to hire based on individual’s interests and lifestyle?
But even so Facebook is just on of the many networking sites that are exist.
I’m sure we all heard about Linkedin.It’s also one of the social networking site. According to the article by Frank Langfitt “Social Networking Technology boosts job recruiting” professional recruiters have started hunting for job candidates using social networking technology. He gives an example of Crawford-Hentz,how she found a right candidate for a product marketing manager.She was lucky to have a linkedin account were she found Alfred LaSpina who ended up getting that job.
In short i think social networking is one of the best thing happen to us .However I’m scared that more more corporations get involved in social networking it’s not going to be free. As for corporations everything is about money , we will end up paying some sort of fee in future.
